Instruct students to operate various types of commercial equipment to obtain commercial driver’s licenses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Instructs students using a variety of methods including lectures, demonstrations, and visual tools to assist students in attaining commercial driving skills.
- Trains students in areas including operating a commercial motor vehicle, proper method of up and down shifting, speed management, visual scan, vehicle control and instruments, left and right turns, maintaining required driving logs, vehicle inspection, and safety techniques.
- Teaches students commercial driving rules and DOT regulations. Evaluates students’ performance in meeting course objectives. Prepares and administers course examinations.
- Maintains accurate records documenting students’ progress and training hours.
- Prepares and presents lesson plans including course and student performance objectives.
- Assists in academy student job placement.
- Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works as required to meet workload demands. Travel to Ohio locations and some limited overnight travel is required.

Working ConditionsWorks in a classroom or outdoor environment. The work environment involves risks or discomforts requiring normal precautions typical of classroom and outdoor environments and driving conditions. The employee is exposed to weather conditions when driving or riding with students and during outdoor classes including wind, rain, sleet, snow and ice. The work requires the use of safe work practices when operating a commercial motor vehicle, and observance of safety and traffic regulations.

reaches with hands and arms. The employee must normally exercise good eye/hand/foot coordination when operating CMV. Vision demands include distance vision when driving CMV. The employee frequently talks and hears when instructing and working with students. The employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.
Skills and Abilities
