POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Mechanic at Marathon, you will be part of a maintenance team that takes pride in the safety and reliability of our transport fleet equipment. This mechanic position provides daily preventative and corrective maintenance on our fleet of transports and trailers. This position is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of our crude transport fleet and is located in East Canton, OH with occasional out of region development opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Properly inspect and maintain trailers in compliance with all DOT requirements.
  • Keep all assigned vehicle maintenance files current including all DOT compliance-related documentation for mechanical work performed on transport vehicles.
  • Perform tire changes.
  • Perform or coordinate emergency maintenance, breakdown repairs on fleet vehicles.
  • Coordinate outside repairs on equipment, annual tanker certifications, inspections, and documentation.
  • Maintain truck shop area, order parts, material, oils, lubricants, shop supplies to include inventory of all parts and supplies.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities such as oil changes, air filter changes, power steering service, suspension system service, PTO’s, locking rear-ends, Roper pumps, brakes, wheel bearings and hubs, electrical system service and miscellaneous maintenance activities as needed.
  • Perform all preventative maintenance schedules on all assigned vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair crude oil transport trucks, tankers, and semi-trailers.
  • Maintain truck shop area, order parts, material, oils, lubricants, shop supplies.
  • Coordinate outside repairs on equipment, annual tanker certifications, inspections and documentation.
Added Lead Technician Responsibilities
  • Ordering parts and inventorying.
  • Ensure regulatory and conformance plans are created and executed.
  • Escalating critical issues to supervisors for resolution.
    • Maintenance Supervisor minimum once a week, Lead Technician onsite daily.
    • Expectation is that critical issues are escalated promptly to Maintenance Supervisor.
      • Critical issues:
        Tech performance, conduct related issues, safety issues or concerns, spills, injuries, security events, other incidents.
      • Eyes/ears for Maintenance Supervisor when not onsite.
    • Escalation is what is required, not direct supervisor responsibilities (not performing coaching and discipline).
  • Assigning daily tasks to fellow technicians in the shop according to Fleet needs.
  • Daily/weekly communication expectations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • GED or High School Diploma.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • At least 5 years of fleet maintenance experience or a combination of ASE/technical certifications and experience preferred; at least 1-year of fleet maintenance experience within MPC preferred.
  • Demonstrates specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise. Recognized as an expert in job discipline both within the company and beyond own area.
  • Solves unique or complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.
  • Leads teams or projects to achieve assigned goals and objectives; identifies best practices/business improvement opportunities to be evaluated and implemented by the Supervisor.
