Position OverviewAt JGM, the Ironworker Foreman is responsible for planning and safely executing work activities while providing technical guidance to the field team. You will collaborate closely with Clients, Superintendents, Project Managers, and the Field Operations Manager to fully understand project strategy, scope, and specifications. In this role, you will lead crews to deliver successful, high‑quality projects. This position offers a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with opportunities for growth, recognition, and reward for strong performance.
Responsibilities- Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate the work of crews involved in assembling, installing, aligning, and dismantling processing equipment, machinery, conveyors, steel structures, and other heavy components.
- Safely utilize a variety of hand tools and equipment including hoists, dollies, rollers, forklifts, and cranes to move machinery and materials.
- Determine the proper methods, tools, and rigging techniques based on load weight, size, and configuration.
- Continuously plan ahead to ensure crews have the necessary materials, equipment, and information to work safely and efficiently.
- Participate in project pre‑planning and short‑term planning sessions.
- Monitor safe work practices and verify that all finished work meets JGM’s quality standards.
- Set and track production goals, providing daily progress reports to the project team.
- Coordinate project details, ensuring crews understand procedures, priorities, and safety requirements.
- Delegate tasks effectively while training, mentoring, and developing future foremen and journeymen.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
- Operate equipment such as man lifts, forklifts, welding units, and other machinery as required.
- Experience:
5–10 years as a journeyman Ironworker/Welder in heavy industrial environments, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or lead role. - Technical
Skills:
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills; proficient in reading blueprints; experienced with industry‑standard tools and equipment. Solid knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. - Leadership:
Demonstrated ability to lead crews, motivate team members, set goals, and provide constructive feedback. Must be a strategic thinker with a results‑driven mindset. - Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and clients. Bilingual abilities are a plus. - Adaptability:
Able to thrive in a fast‑paced and constantly changing environment. - Certifications:
Valid driver’s license required. OSHA 30 or willingness to complete upon hire (training provided). NCCER and rigging credentials are a plus. - Industry Knowledge:
Strong preference for candidates with industrial construction experience.
