Water Pipe Repair Unit Leader (Open)

Salary: $27.80 – $29.76 per hour.

• Under general supervision, oversee and perform work in the installation and maintenance of the water supply distribution system.
• Supervise, instruct, and assist workers in the installation and maintenance work of the water distribution system.
• Locate and install valves and service connection boxes, mains, and connections, and install pitometers.
• Reset to grade valves, boxes, service connection boxes, and cover rings.
• Inspect, test, and repair mains; clean mains and boxes.
• Investigate complaints involving water leaks and poor pressures.
• Excavate and make backfills; test lines and connections, broken valves, and broken fire hydrants.
• Inspect fire mains and repack valves.
• Operate air compressors, air hammers, and pumps; clean fountains, piers, hydrant parts, vaults, pits, and water troughs.
• Cut and thread pipe; tap main pipes; read meters; take water samples; check tools and materials.
• Drive a truck; make out daily reports and time cards.
• Supervise a water service crew in the Pipe Repair Section.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Equivalent of three years of full-time paid experience in the repair of water pipes required.
• Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
• Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds.
• Must have a working knowledge of the water distribution system.
• Must have completed OSHA Excavation Safety and ODOT Traffic Control training.
• Valid State of Ohio Distribution License (I or II) and basic computer literacy are preferred.
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
