The Locator, under the direction of a company supervisor, performs work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas. Locators read and interpret utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using special electronic equipment to detect and locate utilities.
The utilities may include (but not be limited to) gas, electric, cable TV, telecommunications, sanitary sewer, water lines, street lighting and other facilities within the predefined construction area.

- You will read and interpret utility maps / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities
- You will operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
- You will use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities.
- You will perform light excavation with a shovel, to expose buried utilities when necessary.
- You will provide accurate documentation and or sketches related to all locates completed.
- You will receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.
- You will use a computer or other device to receive, document and close out excavation notices.
- You will respond to emergency calls between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
- You will work weekends, night work and/or overnight travel as needed
- You will operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance
- You will perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices
- You are at least 18 years old
- You are authorized to work in the United States for this company
- You have a high school diploma or equivalent
- You have a valid standard Driver's License or Class A Commercial Driver's License
- You have an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company
- You are proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment (shovels, screw drivers, wrenches, and ped keys etc.)
- You are able to maintain a safe work environment
- You are able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
- Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
- May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends or be on-call as work is needed.
- Must be minimum of 18 years old to drive company vehicles/operate company equipment
- May include working nights and holidays.
- May be required to travel in state as necessary to meet business and job requirements.
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.

- Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping a moderate amount of time while on shift.
- The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate.
- Employees performing functions of this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but are not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust; adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
- Employees performing these job functions may be required to lift up to 50lbs.
- Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens.
- Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces.
- Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include but are not limited to: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed.

Pay Range: The Locator I hourly wage range is $20.00 - $28.00, depending on experience.
