Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Germany

Would you like to work at the forefront of innovative catalysis research and actively shape the future of sustainable chemical processes?

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Earth Abundant Metal (EAM) Catalysis at Boehringer Ingelheim, you will have the opportunity to tackle complex catalytic transformations by integrating state‑of‑the‑art screening and modeling approaches with advanced data‑science methods. In this role, you will combine High‑Throughput Experimentation (HTE), advanced sampling techniques, and machine‑learning approaches such as Bayesian optimization to drive the development of EAM‑catalyzed C(sp²)–N and C(sp²)–O cross‑coupling reactions-key transformations in medicinal and process chemistry.
The insights generated during optimization will play a crucial role in enhancing green metrics, process robustness, and cost efficiency on an industrial scale.
Does this sound like your next challenge? We look forward to receiving your application!

This position is part time eligible with >80 %.
This Position is limited for two years.
Note :
To make it easier to find our job advertisements, we use the usual designation "postdoc". Of course, this advertisement is not only addressed to applicants directly after completing their doctorate, but to all qualified candidates.

Tasks & responsibilities
  • In your new role, you will apply state‑of‑the‑art optimization methodologies to efficiently explore complex reaction spaces by integrating High‑Throughput Experimentation (HTE), advanced sampling techniques, empirical modeling, and machine‑learning approaches.
  • Furthermore, you will generate high‑quality and informative datasets using advanced automation technologies to support ML models and active‑learning protocols.
  • You will further develop your skills in data‑visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire), programming languages (e.g., Python), and optimization tools such as Design of Experiments (DoE) software, with on‑the‑job training provided as needed.
  • In addition, you will collaborate closely with colleagues from Boehringer Ingelheim Chemical Development and adjacent functional areas, such as Chemical Research, while also working effectively with external partners.
  • You will make a significant contribution to the development of industrially relevant processes by implementing innovative solutions and methodologies aligned with green‑chemistry principles.
Requirements
  • PhD in Organic Chemistry with strong expertise in preparative organic synthesis and a solid mechanistic understanding of catalytic reactions
  • Strong interest in, or ideally hands‑on experience with, HTE‑based experimentation
, including reaction optimization and model‑driven methodological approaches
  • Enthusiasm for, or experience in,
    data science, data visualization
, and the use of common programming and analytical tools
  • Motivation to work at the intersection of chemistry, automation, and machine learning
, contributing to the development of innovative research approaches
  • Willingness to work collaboratively, solution‑oriented, and interdisciplinarily within a dynamic industrial research environment
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities
, high intellectual curiosity, and strong written and verbal communication skills in English
