Compensation$21.64/hr, with pay increases over the first 3.5 years ending at $23.91/hr, and potential COLA and longevity pay supplements.
ScheduleFull‑time. Work hours 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday–Friday, with flexibility.
OverviewThe Equipment Operator 2 will work in the Division of Forestry at Maumee State Forest. The role involves operating heavy motorized equipment for construction, maintenance, and wildfire support and suppression.
Training and DevelopmentMust successfully complete the Basic Firefighter Introduction to Fire Behavior Course (S‑130/S‑190) within the probation period.
Unusual Working ConditionsWork in all weather conditions outside; exposed to dust, mud, dirt, fumes, noise, and dangerous machinery.
Responsibilities- Operates heavy motorized equipment to complete a variety of construction and maintenance functions.
- Performs wildfire support – forest fire line construction, trail, culvert, road, and bridge work.
- Performs general maintenance and repairs on equipment and facilities.
- Assists with wildfire suppression and prescribed fire support.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no restrictions.
- Formal education in arithmetic (fractions, decimals, percentages), reading, writing, and common English vocabulary.
- Nine months of training or experience operating heavy motorized equipment (e.g., 7‑ton dozer, 8‑10‑ton roller, concrete mixer, excavator, low‑boy, vac‑all, 10‑ton sweeper, 10‑ton tractor, 25,000‑35,000‑lb dump truck).
- Knowledge of safety practices related to equipment operation.
