Overview
We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors for the position of seasonal (unclassified) Lifeguard within the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Indian Lake State Park, assigned to Logan County. Address: 13156 State Route 235 N, Lakeview, Ohio 43331. Responsibilities- Rescue swimmers in distress; enter water to aid potential drowning victims; use rescue equipment (e.g., rescue tube, rescue board, canoe) to tow/pull swimmer to safety; perform emergency first aid (e.g., CPR; control bleeding; cover victim).
- Guard designated swimming areas against drownings and related accidents; advise the public of provisions of the Ohio Revised Code and Parks & Watercraft Division rules; request public compliance; attend training sessions.
- Complete incident report forms; inspect safety equipment for repairs; maintain swimming area (e.g., pick up litter, empty trash, check restrooms and vending machines, mow grass, paint surfaces); keep supervisor informed of maintenance needs (cleaning, chemical adjustments, repairs).
- Hourly pay of $20.58.
May 2026 to September 2026.
Work hoursThese positions are utilized during the division's anticipated busiest season and may include weekends, evenings, and rotating shifts.
Unusual working conditionsExposure to weather; exposure to potentially hostile general public; exposure to danger in performing water rescue.
NotesThese seasonal positions will remain at step 1 of the pay range. They are not eligible for benefits (e.g., vision, dental, life, health insurance, holiday pay, vacation, sick leave, or other paid leave; shift differentials, etc.).
Qualifications- American Red Cross lifeguard training certificate or equivalent (e.g., ARC Lifeguard Certificate 2, YMCA Lifeguard certificate, BSA lifeguard certificate, BSA aquatic instructor certificate, Ellis & Associates lifeguard training certificate, or nationally recognized equivalent).
- CPR certificate (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
- If required to work longer than four months, final applicant must submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use; positive results will disqualify employment (per Ohio Revised Code Sections 3719.01 & 3719.41).
