Nurse Supervisor – Ohio Department of Veterans Services (Ohio Veterans Home, Georgetown)

Job Summary

Lead and oversee nursing staff in a 168‑bed Veterans Home, ensuring high quality care, staffing, and coordination with medical teams. Manage performance evaluations, discipline, training, scheduling, and quality assurance initiatives. Serve as nursing liaison to residents, families, physicians, and other units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise direct‑care nursing staff: complete and sign performance evaluations, handle disciplinary issues, provide counseling, assign work schedules, recruit, interview, onboard, and train new employees.
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate all nursing care services; establish and implement nursing care programs and update current programs.
  • Coordinate record keeping, reporting procedures, and collaboration with resident services; conduct or attend healthcare meetings and functional workshops.
  • Provide leadership for quality assurance functions and requisition medical supplies or equipment.
  • Communicate with resident families, physicians, and specialists; investigate care or abuse complaints.
  • Coordinate scheduling, assessment, evaluation, and delivery of nursing services; develop, schedule, conduct, and monitor in‑service training programs.
  • Attend Utilization Review & Interdisciplinary Team Meetings; write and review reports; coordinate staffing schedules, approve/disapprove leave requests, and manage overtime as needed.
  • Administer direct professional nursing care including emergency care, first aid, and medication administration.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 24 months registered nursing experience; 6 months as an RN Supervisor (Nurse 2, 65513) acceptable.
  • Experience in counseling (1 course or 3 months), interviewing (1 course or 3 months), public relations (3 courses or 9 months), employee training & development (3 courses or 9 months), and management (6 courses or 18 months).
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop nursing staff.
  • Strong organizational, critical‑thinking, teamwork, and confidentiality skills.
