SummaryAs a Crane Operator, you will operate industrial cranes and other equipment to move materials, supplies, and finished products within our facility. Your role is crucial in ensuring the efficient flow of materials and maintaining a safe working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities- Operate a grapple or mag crane to load, unload, and move scrap materials within the yard.
- Operate a shear crane to cut material down in size and look for hidden hazards.
- Perform pre‑operational checks and routine maintenance on crane equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and procedures while handling materials and operating crane machinery.
- Transport scrap materials from storage areas, trucks, or other locations to designated processing or storage areas using crane equipment.
- Handle materials carefully to prevent damage and ensure proper positioning and stacking.
- Assist in sorting and organizing scrap materials according to type, size, and processing requirements.
- Follow work orders and instructions to prioritize and complete material handling tasks efficiently.
- Monitor material flows and communicate with supervisors or team members to optimize operational processes.
- Maintain accurate records of material movements and inventory levels as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including storage and crane equipment.
- Comply with environmental regulations and company policies related to scrap material handling and disposal.
- Report any safety hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions to supervisory staff immediately.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to earn Blue Scope Recycling’s crane certification.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to crane operation and material handling.
- Ability to interpret work orders, follow instructions, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Physical stamina and strength to lift and maneuver heavy materials and operate crane controls for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in recording data and maintaining inventory records.
- Willing to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects regularly.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency in operating crane controls and handling materials with precision and care.
