Smart Miete is a digital platform designed to make German tenancies successful. After an extensive period of testing, iteration, and learning, we are confident that we have achieved product–market fit and are entering a phase of accelerated growth. To support this next stage, we are seeking a driven and entrepreneurial Market Development Manager to build and scale our business in Germany based out of our Oslo-office.
This role is a key leadership position with clear potential to evolve into a Country Manager role once defined commercial and operational milestones are achieved.
The Role
As Market Development Manager for Germany, you will be responsible for building Smart Miete’s presence, traction, and commercial foundation in the German market. You will work at the intersection between product, marketing, business development, and operations, acting as the voice of the German market internally and the face of Smart Miete externally.
This is a hands‑on role suited for someone who thrives in a scale‑up environment and enjoys combining strategic thinking with execution.
Key Responsibilities
Market & Product Direction- Lead the direction for Smart Miete’s product development in Germany, ensuring strong alignment between landlord and tenant needs and the platform’s functionality
- Act as a German market expert, translating local requirements, feedback, and opportunities into actionable product and roadmap input in tight collaboration with product management
- Collaborate closely with product and tech teams to prioritize market‑relevant features
- Define and execute go‑to‑market and growth strategies for the German market
- Be responsible for acquiring the right mix of landlords and tenants to the platform
- Build Smart Miete’s brand presence in Germany
- Work actively with media and external partners to increase visibility and credibility
- Identify, validate, and implement monetisation opportunities in the German market
- Develop business models, pricing strategies, and revenue streams
- Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships
- Ensure Smart Miete’s operations and product comply with German legislation and regulatory requirements
- Act as the main point of contact for legal, regulatory, and compliance matters related to Germany
- Build, lead, and develop the team required to successfully execute Smart Miete’s business plan in Germany
- Manage direct reports within customer service, while working in close collaboration through dotted‑line responsibilities with product management and marketing functions
- Work closely with group‑level managers to align on objectives, set goals, and ensure effective performance management across all team members involved in Smart Miete’s German operations
Who You Are
- Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing, product management, or a closely related field
- Minimum 2 years of management experience, including personnel and/or KPI responsibility
- Strong understanding of building and scaling products or platforms in a local market
- Commercially minded, with experience in growth, monetisation, or business development
- Comfortable working in an ambiguous, fast‑moving environment with high ownership
- Knowledge of the German market and regulatory environment is a strong advantage
- Fluent in German and English
