Summary

The purpose of this classification is to clean the sanitary and storm mainlines.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

* Conducts sewer maintenance activities. Locates test tees/cleanouts/risers using available markings, permits, maps, or other documentation; enters resident's home to locate test-tee or other access point, as necessary; marks location of test-tee. Uses hand tools to dig for access, identifies marked utility lines, and uses appropriate caution; uses shoring if necessary. Removes manhole covers and traps; visually inspects manholes and makes appropriate reports when necessary;

enters manholes to install flow meters, check for debris and blockages, and to dislodge and/or remove items. Reads flow meters and completes dye and smoke testing procedures. Assists in performing inflow and infiltration investigations. Operates Jet-Vac equipment; fills water jet tank by connecting hose to hydrant and wrenching hydrant valve. Assists in setting up equipment, such as T.V. camera, when assistance is required in manhole or on top with confined space equipment.

* Performs general labor, maintenance, and repair activities to establish access and/or return the worksite to its previous condition. Digs for access to sewer lines with caution for other utilities. Backfills with gravel and dirt and ensures proper tamping. Cleans yards, sidewalks, streets, and driveways of any debris of work debris;
Repairs lawns with topsoil, seed, and straw; completes snow and ice removal.

* Establishes and maintains a safe worksite. Places appropriate safety equipment according to County policy specified in the safety manual, including signs, cones, flashers, personal protective equipment, etc. Directs or signals traffic, as needed.

* Transports equipment and/or transports other crew members to assigned job site in assigned vehicle. Interprets maps to determine directions to the location of the repair or service and/or to determine the appropriate manhole. Uses mobile phone or two-way radio to communicate with dispatcher or supervisor.

* Completes routine equipment inspections and makes minor repairs and adjustments. Ensures that trucks are fueled, and that the interior and exterior are clean and in safe working condition. Performs standard safety inspections of major vehicle systems including checking fluids, gasses, and air pressure prior to operation; reports observed defects. Draws and signs for tools, equipment, and supplies; keeps daily inventory of items;

and reports any need for repair and/or replacement. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance routines. Repairs and maintains camera equipment.

* May assist with planning and coordination of sewer maintenance daily activities. Organizes and helps train other crew members; discusses problems in the field with residents; relegates specific and/or controversial questions to higher supervision.

* Performs related administrative responsibilities and other related work as assigned; reads and prepares written and electronic records, various reports, and other documentation; restocks log sheets; records appropriate data; files and scans paperwork as needed; responds to emails and phone calls; attends various trainings and meetings; conducts inventory control; and disperse equipment and materials.

Minimum Requirements

* High school diploma or equivalent

* State of Ohio Driver License.

* State of Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License with necessary endorsements (tanker) or must obtain within probationary period.
