The Senior Full Stack Engineer in the CTO Office will own and deliver high-impact special projects across our healthcare portfolio—primarily focused on health insurance payers and Health Information Exchange (HIE) initiatives. This is a high-autonomy, high-visibility role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast with strong engineering judgment, and can independently take a project from concept to production. You will partner directly with the CTO and cross‑functional stakeholders to identify opportunities, shape solutions, build end‑to‑end systems, and drive adoption—balancing speed with quality, security, and interoperability requirements in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities- Own special projects end‑to‑end: discovery, solution design, implementation, testing, deployment, and post‑launch iteration.
- Partner directly with C‑level execs to translate strategic priorities into executable technical plans, milestones, and shipped outcomes.
- Design and build production‑grade full stack applications using Next.js/React, Node.js, and Type Script.
- Architect scalable, secure systems that handle PHI responsibly, including audit logging, traceability, access controls, and data minimization.
- Build backend services and APIs (REST and/or Graph
QL) with strong standards for reliability, documentation, versioning, and performance. - Lead integration efforts for payer and/or HIE workflows, enabling data exchange and interoperability across systems.
- Implement or support healthcare data exchange standards and transactions such as FHIR, HL7 v2, and X12/EDI (270/271, 276/277, 278, 834, 835, 837) as project needs require.
- Make pragmatic architecture decisions and technology selections, documenting tradeoffs and ensuring maintainability.
- Establish best practices for the project: code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and operational readiness.
- Work closely with product, operations, compliance, and engineering teams to align requirements, unblock execution, and ensure successful rollout.
- Communicate proactively with stakeholders—providing clear status updates, risks, options, and recommendations.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of full stack engineering experience shipping production applications.
- Strong expertise in Next.js/React and modern front‑end development (state management, performance, accessibility).
- Strong backend experience with Node.js and Type Script (Express/NestJS or similar), including API design and integration patterns.
- Proven ability to work independently and deliver projects from start to finish with minimal oversight.
- Strong system design skills and experience building scalable architectures, making sound tradeoffs, and driving projects through ambiguity.
- Solid experience with SQL databases (Postgres/MySQL) and data modeling; familiarity with No
SQL is a plus. - Healthcare domain experience, preferably with health insurance payers and/or HIE programs.
- Working knowledge of interoperability standards and workflows (FHIR, HL7, X12/EDI).
- Experience building secure systems in compliance‑driven environments (HIPAA‑aligned controls, encryption, least privilege, auditability).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and production deployments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to align technical execution with business outcomes.
- Hands‑on experience with payer workflows such as eligibility & benefits, claims lifecycle support, prior authorization, provider data, member enrollment, care coordination, and payer reporting.
- Experience with FHIR implementation details (profiling/validation, terminology, subscriptions, bulk data, integration engines).
- Experience with HIE integration patterns and tooling (interface engines, exchange workflows, eventing, batch vs…
