The Database Administrator (DBA) will perform various operational tasks, including, but not limited to database monitoring, backups, and recovery procedures, as well as new implementations, upgrades, patching, and configuration for several projects undertaken by the Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) division. Focused on core data technologies with strong ties to application areas across campus, the EDA division collects, stores, analyzes, governs, and stewards data to drive optimal outcomes for the entire Meharry Medical College enterprise which comprises the Academic enterprise, the Business enterprise, the Clinical enterprise, and the Research enterprise.

The DBA is responsible for keeping all pertinent EDA databases up-to-date and running properly (24x7). Key goals include ensuring that the databases are available, performing properly, and kept secure; and maintaining database and database servers in a healthy condition, including software installation, upgrades and patching, migrations, backup and recovery, performance tuning, security, monitoring, problem-solving writing and applying scripts to update the database.

The DBA assists with creation / organization of systems to store different data types, implementation of data policies and standards, resolving data conflicts, and interface technologies and application management support/solutions for an Enterprise Data Warehouse platform running on Azure Environment.

• Database design and the ongoing support and administration of databases
• Manage the performance, optimization, administration, and recovery of large database environment
• Develop data services, creating indexes, configuring installations and securing environments
• Implement data models, database designs, data access and table maintenance codes
• Assure that applications perform according to service level agreements, databases are administered properly, and data is sufficiently backed up.
• Develop, implement, administer, document, and maintain policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the enterprise database systems
• Resolves database performance and capacity issues and replication and other distributed data issues.
• Work with cross-functional teams to build the physical and logical databases and provide technical guidance during all phases of the development process.
• Write and debug complex SQL and understand the best ways to incorporate database requests into application programs
• Implement SQL Server Replication and Power Shell scripting as needed.
• Assist in developing automation of various operational tasks performed by a DBA.
• Collaborative design & development with programmers and business analysts
• Performance monitoring & tuning with SQL server profiler and execution plans.
• Identify and evaluate industry trends in new database related systems and technologies (e.g., Azure, SQL on Linux, No

• Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time, cost and infrastructure required to successfully deliver the database requests
• Research, architect and implement database technologies designs using industry and Meharry Enterprise Data and Analytics best practices.
