The Front Desk/Receptionist is responsible for greeting patients in a professional manner; updating and verifying patient information, including obtaining patient /insurance information, processing copayments, and registering patients in the billing system; maintaining a smooth flow of communication between patient, provider, and clinical staff; handling scheduling inquiries; and providing other assistance as needed. This person will be cross‑trained in all areas of the front desk.
SchedulePart‑time Schedule: 3 days per week (average of 24‑30 hours).
Responsibilities- Greet and check in patients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
- Accurately enter, update, and verify insurance information and patient demographics; work with several medical computer programs.
- Complete patient registration process by reviewing accounts and other compliance‑related documents for completeness and accuracy; obtain and document missing information required for registration.
- Prepare paperwork for patient visits.
- Verify patient benefits and eligibility when needed; collect all necessary co‑pays, deductibles, and co‑insurance as required; respond to questions regarding account status, payment arrangements, and concerns; resolve billing or charge disputes or forward problem accounts to the appropriate individual for resolution.
- Monitor patient flow, adjust workflows, and notify the clinical staff of any pertinent information and changes.
- Act as a liaison between patients, guests, back‑office staff, and providers.
- Reconcile cash against daily charge and cash reports.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments as needed.
- Create, distribute, and file new patient charts/medical records.
- Perform clerical tasks such as copying, sorting, scanning, and faxing.
- Properly check out patients, including collecting appropriate co‑pays, past‑due balances, and fees; ensuring proper completion of all forms; updating medical records as needed.
- Keep the front desk area and waiting room clean and tidy and restock with necessary supplies.
- Comply with all policies and procedures of the organization, including but not limited to standard operating procedures and employee handbook.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Telephone operator or high call volume experience.
