Job Summary

BASIC

SUMMARY:

Supervise in-life technical personnel. Schedule animal rooms and assign technical personnel to studies. Responsible for assisting in the conduct of studies.

The pay range for this position is ($60,000 -$70,000). Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Working hours for this full-time exempt position are 12:30pm - 9:00pm (2nd Shift).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform required technical in-life functions of assigned studies.
  • Attend supervisor meetings, coordinate work responsibilities with other supervisory staff to meet overall company study workload goals.
  • Oversee the review and assure GLP compliance of in-life data books and animal husbandry logs.
  • Oversee daily operational activities and supervise a group of non-exempt employees. Ensure optimum group performance.
  • Responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews.
  • Recommend short-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans.
  • May assist in development of departmental budget.
  • As required, oversee maintenance of group training manual and training records.
  • Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements.
  • Support the policy of equal employment opportunity through affirmative action in personnel actions.
  • Ensure adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements and to departmental policies, practices and procedures [SOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols].
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle common laboratory species and laboratory equipment.
  • Regularly reaches with arms and hands.
  • Frequently pushes and pulls animal cages weighing 400 pounds (on casters), bending and lifting.
  • Stands/walks for 60% of the workday.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly wears protective clothing (scrubs, lab coats, safety glasses, and gloves).
  • Occasionally wears a respirator.
  • Frequently works with sharp objects (e.g., needles).
  • Regularly works with known and unknown toxins and chemicals.
  • Regularly works with small- and medium-sized laboratory animals with risk of exposure to allergens.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Job Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associate’s degree (A.A./A.S.) in Life Sciences related discipline desired., Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent desired with a Life Science discipline preferred.
  • Experience:

    3-5 years related experience in toxicology or veterinary related discipline. Six months to one year in a leadership role desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification desired.
  • Other:
    Demonstrated leadership and word processing skills. Effective written and verbal skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in United States without a sponsor visa now or in the future.
