Job Purpose and Summary

In our retail locations, the Staff Pharmacist cultivates a culture of excellence, serves as a role model, and supports the Pharmacy Manager in leading and directing the pharmacy team.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and serve as proxy during bench shifts, strengthening pharmacy performance measures through coaching and follow‑up of team members.
  • Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by directing the pharmacy team to follow established workflow procedures and safety guardrails.
  • Uphold positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, coaching the team to do the same, and resolving insurance or medication issues proactively.
  • Offer and deliver immunizations, engaging Pharmacy Technicians in immunization training.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, supporting team to follow inventory best practices and protect cold‑chain products.
  • Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Remain flexible for schedule and business needs, and support the Pharmacy Manager in writing the pharmacy schedule as directed.
  • Maintain relevant clinical Socket technical skills, including mandatory training and CMEs, and pursue opportunities for knowledge expansion.
  • Support access to care and improve patient outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical services such as testing and prescribing (e.g., COVID/Flu, hormonal contraception) where permissible.
  • Understand and comply with all federal and state laws, professional standards, and CVS Health policies to protect patient safety and privacy.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to completecap required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus – concentrate on tasks over time, pivot quickly, confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation – help people in a friendly manner, notice and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Communication Skills – use and understand verbal and written communication, active listening, ask questions, and avoid inappropriate interruptions.
  • Mathematical Reasoning – use math to determine total tablets, day’s supply, and necessary bottle counts.
  • Issue Resolution – identify challenging interactions and choose best course of action.
  • Physical Demands – mobile and upright for extended periods, lift, scan, bag items, reach overhead, repeat finger tasks, lift up to 20 lbs occasionally, and maintain visual acuity for small parts.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1‑2 years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
  • Ability to work at other locations across the market as business needs require.

Pay Range: $60.00 – $76.00 per hour (or base annual salary within the grade). Eligible for bonus, commission, or short‑term incentive program.
