Position SummaryAerospace & Defense (A&D);
Business Development. This role will report to the Vice President of Business Development within the Customer Experience & Growth team in A&D. The Business Development team will drive new business for the A&D sector, including the Integrated Electronics (IE) and Interconnect Solutions (IS) business units, working closely with Customer Account teams, Engineering, Finance, and site Operations teams. The focus is on European defense contractors, NATO programs, and European defense ministries.
The candidate will leverage market, customer, and product expertise to identify, pursue and capture growth opportunities in the European defense market. This highly visible role drives critical growth initiatives that directly impact the company's success.
Full‑time position based in Europe (UK, France, or Germany preferred) requiring 50% travel across Europe and occasional travel to North America.
- Build a strong pipeline of opportunities through a customer base aligned with sector strategy.
- Document all opportunities in CRM.
- Manage opportunities through the complete BD lifecycle: qualification → shaping → capture → proposal → award within European defense procurement processes.
- Work with Engineering, Operations, and Pricing Teams to architect solutions that meet or exceed customer specifications while delivering competitive advantage in price/performance and ensuring compliance with offset/industrial participation requirements.
- Understand end‑to‑end pipeline management, from early market intelligence (18‑48 months pre‑RFP) through capture planning, proposal development, and contract award.
- Develop and maintain relationships with customer program and engineering staff at European defense primes (BAE Systems, Thales, Leonardo, Airbus Defence & Space, MBDA, Saab, Rheinmetall, Dassault, etc.) and defense ministries.
- Engage customers proactively to shape requirements before RFP release and influence specifications to align with company capabilities and offset obligations.
- Build relationships at multiple levels: technical/engineering, program offices, procurement/contracting authorities, ministry officials, end users.
- Maintain lead tracking information throughout the capture lifecycle and pipeline status data to support BU reporting rhythms.
- Apply structured capture methodologies (Phase Gate) to ensure disciplined pursuit decisions adapted for European procurement cycles.
- Employ competitive intelligence, pricing strategy, and win theme development, understanding the European competitor landscape.
- Coordinate closely with Customer Account Managers and Sales Team to ensure a unified view of customer activity, competitive landscape, and price‑to‑win across European markets.
- Develop and deliver bid/no‑bid review packages to meet BU requirements and inform critical decision‑making, including offset feasibility assessment.
- Translate complex technical capabilities into customer value propositions in the context of European sovereignty and domestic production priorities.
- Present to executive leadership (internal) and senior customer officials (program managers, European defense ministry officials, NATO representatives).
- When required, perform the Capture Management role, working with cross‑functional teams to deliver successful capture strategies and ensure high capture rates on European defense programs.
- Work with Engineering and Operations teams to drive the identification and development of new capabilities enabling penetration into new programs and maintaining market‑leading capabilities.
