Job Description

Provides individual and/or small group instruction for assigned students. Encourages parental involvement.

NOTE:

Duties may require traveling to various sites or classes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    Valid Ohio teacher’s license or certificate appropriate for the assignment.
Qualifications
  • Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Training and/or experience in behavioral management techniques.
Responsibilities
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates remediation activities to help at-risk students improve basic academic skills.
  • Prepares the assigned instructional area. Requisition s supplies and equipment. Promotes the proper use and care of school property.
  • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
  • Encourages parent/community partnerships that enhance district programs.
  • Consults with classroom teachers to clarify assignments and instructional objectives.
  • Teaches assigned students as scheduled. Documents teaching performance objectives. Creates effective learning experiences.
  • Ensures that lesson plans align with state academic standards and/or the district’s adopted courses of study. Submits written lesson plans according to building procedures.
  • Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
  • Reinforces concepts introduced in inclusive educational settings.
  • Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
  • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.
  • Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
  • Collaborates with teachers. Serves as a resource for remediation activities. Shares knowledge and resources that enhance learning.
  • Incorporates the effective use of available technology in records management and instructional activities. Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares periodic student progress reports for classroom teachers.
  • Consults with parents as needed (e.g., telephone calls, messages, meetings, etc.).
  • Takes precautions to ensure safety. Watches for conduct that may indicate a problem. Works with staff to eliminate unacceptable behavior.
  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect as required by law.
  • Makes a referral for student assistance/intervention when a need is indicated.
  • Supervises non-classroom duties when assigned during school hours.
  • Participates in conferences and other required school events.
  • Encourages parent organizations. Participates in school-sponsored activities as time permits.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities.
  • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Strives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
