SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER File 312

Reports to:

Director of Special Education and Principal

Job Objectives:

Plans, implements, and evaluates student learning experiences using a differentiated curriculum. Encourages parental involvement.

Minimum
· Valid Ohio teacher's license or certificate appropriate for the assignment.

Qualifications:

· Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).

* A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

* Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.

* Training and/or experience in behavioral management techniques.

Functions:perform essential functions.

* Works with the director of special education and administrators to plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate academic and support services for identified students.

* Complies with state model policies and procedures for the education of students identified as having a disability. Ensure that services are provided in the least restrictive educational environment.

* Serves as a liaison to parents. Helps resolve student participation issues/concerns.

* Helps prepare and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for assigned students.

* Researches and prepares program materials.

Requisition s supplies and equipment. Promotes the proper use and care of school property.

* Documents teaching performance objectives. Creates effective learning experiences. Ensures that lesson plans align with state academic standards and/or the district's adopted courses of study and are consistent with students' IEPs.

* Submits written lesson plans according to building procedures. Provides prompt notification of absences. Ensures that teaching materials, class lists, and classroom procedures are readily available for substitutes.

* Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.

* Encourages parent/community partnerships that enhance district programs.

* Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.

* Collaborates with staff to implement behavior improvement plans as needed

* Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.

* Evaluates the needs of students based on all available information. Plans student interventions. Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.

* Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.

* Collaborates with other teachers. Shares knowledge and resources that enhance learning.

* Incorporates the effective use of available technology in records management and instructional activities. Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.

* Proctors standardized and alternative tests as directed. Follows test security procedures. Helps students with content-area preparation activities.

* Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.

* Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.

* Evaluates student achievement/performance and assigns grades. Prepares progress reports. Consults with parents as needed (e.g., phone calls, notes, meetings, etc.).

* Makes a referral for student assistance/intervention when a need is indicated.

* Supports a full range of educational options. Helps staff resolve problems related to the participation of students with disabilities in appropriate learning activities.

* Takes precautions to ensure safety. Watches for conduct that may indicate a problem. Works with staff to eliminate unacceptable behavior.

* Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect as required by law.

* Serves as a resource to teachers with special education students in their classrooms.

* Modifies test procedures as specified in IEP (e.g., prepares study guides, reads test questions, transcribes student responses, provides additional time, etc.).
