Åbo Akademi University invites applications for a full-time fixed-term position as University Lecturer or University Teacher in Information Systems and Information Studies for the period 1 August 2026–31 July 2027. The position is located in Turku.
DutiesThe position involves teaching and course responsibility at the bachelor level in the areas of the two subjects Information systems and Information studies. The duties include teaching, supervising student assignments, preparing and conducting examinations, and other tasks related to education within the department. The successful applicant will collaborate with colleagues in the planning and delivery of teaching and contribute to continuous pedagogical development.
The university lecturer/ university teacher is covered by the system with total working hours of 1612 hours per year and the tasks are defined and followed up in more detail in an annual work plan. A university lecturer's duties consist of teaching and research. A university teacher may be given the opportunity to conduct research to a lesser extent. The duties are specified in an annual work plan and depend on the applicant's level of qualifications.
QualificationsA university lecturer is required to hold a doctoral degree in the subject they are teaching or a closely related discipline and possess teaching skills. A university teacher is required to hold a higher university degree (Master’s degree) in the subject they are teaching or a closely related discipline and possess teaching skills.
Applicants are primarily expected to hold a doctoral degree in Information Studies, Information Systems, or a closely related field; however, candidates with a relevant master’s degree and strong documented teaching experience may also be considered. Ongoing doctoral studies are considered a merit.
University-level teaching experience and documented pedagogical skills are required, preferably with experience of teaching, course coordination and supervision at the bachelor level. Experience in developing course content and assessment is an advantage.
- Pedagogical competence, especially relevant university-level teaching and supervision experience, together with experience of planning and developing curricula, and studies in university pedagogics or the like.
- Research competence, including achieved academic merits and scholarly publications.
- Interactive competence, including good co-operation and administrative skills, and assignments in society, as well as experience of collaboration in national and international networks.

The appointment will be made on the basis of an overall evaluation of the applicants’ merits in view of the qualifications necessary for successful performance of the duties.
EmploymentThis is a full-time fixed-term appointment from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027.
The university lecturer’s salary is based on levels 5–6 of the job demand levels for teaching and research staff. The university teacher’s salary is based on level 5 of the job demand levels for teaching and research staff. In addition, an individual salary component based on personal work performance is added to the salary. Please see the salary scales for teaching and research staff.
A trial period applies to all new employees.
