Position Summary
Leads faculty and undergraduate academic programs, graduate and non‑traditional programs, and
82480 other areas as designated by the President. Provides creative leadership for new academic initiatives, oversees faculty recruitment, promotion and tenure processes, and supports faculty development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Academic Leadership & Strategic Planning
    • Provide overall academic leadership aligned with the institution’s mission and strategic plan.
    • Serve on the President’s Cabinet and collaborate with senior leadership to set goals and academic priorities.
    • Lead development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of academic programs.
    • Support the institution’s mission by leading faculty, ensuring a dynamic academic program, including faculty development, evaluation and hiring.
  • Curriculum Development & Program Oversight
    • Oversee curriculum planning, approval, scheduling and evaluation of academic programs.
    • Ensure instructional programs respond to community, workforce and transfer needs.
  • Faculty & Staff Leadership
    • Provide direction and supervision for academic department chairs and faculty, including hiring, evaluation and professional development.
    • Oversee Academic Affairs, University Registrar, Disability Services, Learning Resource Center, Institutional Research, Musselman Library & University Archives, General & Cross‑Cultural Education, Thesnd… etc (other major offices).
  • Accreditation & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, federal and accreditation requirements.
    • Serve as Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) to lead accreditation initiatives.
    • Lead planning and oversight of academic budgets and resource allocation within Academic Affairs.
  • Program Assessment

    • Direct assessment of student learning outcomes and academic program effectiveness.
    • Use data to inform curriculum adjustments.
  • Policy & Governance
    • Develop, recommend and implement academic policies and procedures.
    • Represent Academic Affairs internally and externally.

  • Acting in Executive Leadership Roles
    • Serve as principal institutional representative in President’s absence.
    • Assist President with governance tasks or external affairs.
  • External Relations & Partnerships
    • Develop educational partnerships with industry, community organizations and other institutions.
    • Work on articulation agreements or cooperative programs with secondary and post‑secondary institutions.
  • Fundraising & Advancement
    • Support philanthropic efforts by engaging donors on academic priorities.
  • Special Initiatives & Task Forces
    • Lead or participate in committees, strategic task forces, accreditation self‑studies, and institutional initiatives (equity, guided pathways, workforce projects).
  • Crisis or Compliance Work
    • Respond to complex compliance issues.
    • Prepare reports for oversight entities.
    • Support legal/regulatory responses.
    Qualifications
    • Minimum
      • Earned terminal degree (PhD, EdD or equivalent) from an accredited institution related to the institution’s mission.
      • 5‑7 years progressive academic leadership experience, beyond a single department.
      • Experience as a tenured faculty member or equivalent academic appointment.
      • Demonstrated responsibility for curriculum development, program review and academic policy.
      • Direct experience with regional accreditation processes and compliance reporting.
      • Experience with budget development and resource allocation within Academic Affairs.
    • Preferred
      • Doctorate in a discipline representative at the institution or higher education leadership.
      • Senior‑level academic leadership experience (dean, associate provost, provost/CAO).
      • Experience leading institutional change initiatives (curriculum reform, program prioritization, reorganization).
      • Experience at an institution with a similar mission, size, governance model or faith‑based context.
