Position Summary
The High School and Middle School Agriculture Education Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction aligned with Ohio's Learning Standards for Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR). The position integrates classroom and laboratory instruction, FFA leadership development, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs to promote student academic achievement, career readiness, and leadership skills in agricultural sciences and related career pathways.
This position includes extended days beyond the traditional school calendar to support FFA, SAE supervision, and program responsibilities in accordance with Ohio's Career-Technical Education Fifth Quarter Grant requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction in Agriculture Education courses in alignment with Ohio's AFNR Career Field Technical Content Standards and district curriculum.
Develop and implement engaging lessons that integrate classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, and hands-on learning in areas such as plant science, animal science, agribusiness, agricultural mechanics, natural resources, and food science.
Advise (coadvice) and supervise the local FFA chapter, including planning meetings, leadership activities, Career Development Events (CDEs), and participation in local, state, and national FFA activities.
Supervise, evaluate, and support student Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs in accordance with Ohio and federal guidelines.
Fulfill extended contract days as required.
Oversee Ohio Fifth Quarter Grant, including summer and non-instructional days dedicated to SAE supervision, FFA activities, program planning, facility management, and student engagement.
Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and well-managed classroom, laboratory, shop, greenhouse, and agricultural facilities environment.
Implement and enforce safety procedures related to laboratories, shops, greenhouses, land labs, and agricultural equipment.
Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments and utilize data to guide instruction, intervention, and enrichment.
Maintain accurate and timely records related to student attendance, academic progress, SAE documentation, FFA participation, and Fifth Quarter Grant compliance in accordance with district and state requirements.
Integrate instructional technology, industry-standard equipment, and district-approved digital resources to enhance student learning and career readiness.
Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, administrators, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
Collaborate with Career-Technical Education staff, intervention specialists, counselors, and support personnel to support student success and program alignment.
Participate in professional development, staff meetings, curriculum planning, and school-related activities, including those occurring during extended contract days.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education, Agricultural Science Education, or appropriate related field.
Valid Ohio teaching license in Agriculture (Career-Technical Education) or eligibility to obtain appropriate licensure through the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce.
Knowledge of agricultural science content, instructional strategies, laboratory and shop safety practices, and assessment methods.
Ability and willingness to fulfill extended contract days and days associated with the Ohio Fifth Quarter Grant.
Ability to advise (coadvise) FFA programs and supervise SAE experiences in compliance with Ohio and federal guidelines.
Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, community members, and industry partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Agriculture Education, Education, or a related field.
Prior Agriculture Education teaching experience.
Life science (Biology and/or integrated) teaching licensure strongly preferred.
Experience advising an FFA chapter and supervising SAE programs.
Industry experience in agriculture, agribusiness, or related career fields.
Experience with data-driven instruction, career-technical education programming, and differentiated learning strategies.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work is performed in classrooms, laboratories, agricultural shops, greenhouses, land labs, and outdoor settings.
Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting equipment and materials, and supervising students in hands-on learning environments.
