Teacher of the Visually Impaired / Vision Specialist

Salary Range: $60,000 to $85,000, prorated based on days, depending on educational experience; may be negotiated.

Full or Part time, up to 5 days per week.

General Description:

Provides supplemental aids and services, including instruction in Braille, to enable students with visual disability to progress in the general curriculum and attain IEP goals.

Qualifications
  • Ohio Department of Education Teacher’s Certification/Licensure in Vision Impairments
  • Training and experience teaching students with Vision Impairments; effective collaboration with educators and families
  • Satisfactory result of BCI/FBI background checks
Main Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Provide instruction and consultation services to VI students
  • Consult with district staff and families
  • Attend IEP meetings
  • Select and develop instructional materials and equipment
  • Serve as liaison between district staff and other agencies
  • Provide resources to staff regarding vision impairments
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of students
  • Evaluate student progress
  • Maintain knowledge of techniques and innovations via attendance and training
  • Respond constructively to supervision
  • Participate in team meetings and staff development
  • Manage time to accomplish duties and implement strategies
  • Maintain records and collect outcome results
  • Develop and follow accurate schedule of services
  • Complete reports and other documents as needed
