Location: Germany

Techtive Games is an ambitious indie studio based in Germany. We are building an open‑world survival game, Ardem, and need a creative and driven Level Designer to help shape the world as we move into full production.

Responsibilities
  • Taking ownership of assigned Points of Interest, from early concept to final in‑game implementation.
  • Creating location concepts based on provided information and direction (concepts may be sketches, blockouts, or other formats that suit your workflow).
  • Implementing and polishing locations directly in Unreal Engine 5 using existing assets.
  • Ensuring levels are fully playable, readable, and visually coherent within the open world.
  • Iterating on your work based on feedback and improving locations through multiple passes.
  • Actively contributing ideas for environmental storytelling, atmosphere, and spatial composition.
  • Collaborating closely with the Level Design Lead and the team to ensure consistency across the world.
Requirements
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Level Designer or in a comparable role.
  • Strong experience working directly in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Solid understanding of level design fundamentals such as flow, readability, scale, and composition.
  • Experience designing both interior and exterior spaces.
  • Ability to work independently, take feedback constructively, and iterate efficiently.
  • A strong sense for atmosphere and environmental storytelling.
  • Comfortable working in an open‑world setup with existing tools and assets.
Bonus Skills
  • Experience with World Partition, Data Layers, and Level Instances.
  • Familiarity with PCG (Procedural Content Generation) workflows in Unreal Engine.
  • Basic knowledge of materials or shaders.
  • Experience working on indie or small‑team productions.
Working Model
  • Fully remote.
  • Freelance, with a full‑time option for candidates based in Germany.
