German General Editor (Freelance, Contract)

Omniscient Digital is an organic growth agency that partners with ambitious B2B SaaS companies like SAP, Adobe, Loom, and Hotjar to turn SEO and content into growth engines.

About This Role

We’re looking for a meticulous German-speaking freelance editor to join our editorial team. This role focuses on editing long‑form articles, blogs, and SEO content written in fluent Standard German (Hochdeutsch). You must be fully fluent in Standard German and able to edit for grammar, tone, clarity, and voice at a native or near‑native level.

If you’re an experienced editor who enjoys turning complex topics into clear, readable content and thrives in an independent, detail‑oriented work environment, we’d love to hear from you. The application passcode is Wortliebhaber
. We do not work with editors or writers who subcontract their work.

Responsibilities
  • Edit a variety of content types (blogs, guides, marketing materials) in fluent Standard German. Review long‑form and marketing content to ensure it reads naturally, clearly, and professionally, with tone and phrasing tailored to B2B and technical audiences.
  • Ensure content is grammatically correct, clear, and aligned with tone, brand, and editorial guidelines. Polish every piece to match client voice and tone while ensuring formatting, structure, and messaging are consistent with our internal editorial standards.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to writers. Collaborate with writers and offer thoughtful, actionable guidance to improve structure, clarity, and narrative flow across drafts.
  • Fact‑check statistics, claims, and links to ensure accuracy and reliability. Verify factual information and sources, ensuring every piece is credible, up‑to‑date, and ready for publication.
  • Edit for SEO without sacrificing readability. Apply SEO best practices—such as proper keyword placement and metadata formatting—while prioritizing clarity, tone, and value for the reader.
  • Consistently meet tight deadlines—typically within 24–48 hours—while managing multiple projects and maintaining a high standard of quality. Balance quality and speed, delivering polished work within short timelines without compromising accuracy or consistency.
  • Communicate regularly with the editorial lead about deadlines and project status. Keep communication proactive and professional, ensuring clear alignment on timelines, priorities, and any potential blockers.
  • Utilize our style guide to ensure editorial consistency across client work. Apply both client‑specific and internal style guidelines to ensure every piece aligns with expectations around formatting, voice, structure, and terminology.
Who You Are
  • Fluent in Standard German (Hochdeutsch) with native or near‑native fluency, ensuring content feels natural, polished, and audience‑appropriate.
  • Strong understanding of German grammar and style rules, with the ability to reference and apply Duden standards as needed. Confident in language norms and expertly guide tone, punctuation, and structure.
  • 2+ years of experience editing B2B, SaaS, or technical/SEO content. Familiar with industry‑focused content and adept at adapting edits for professional and technical audiences.
  • Meticulous and detail‑obsessed. Ensure every sentence is clean, correct, and in the right voice—nothing slips past you.
  • Value collaboration and always seek feedback. Look for ways to improve your craft and better serve clients.
  • Punctual and proactive. Deadlines are non‑negotiable, and you communicate early if timelines shift.
  • Intellectually curious, a critical thinker who loves researching new topics and finding clarity in complexity.
  • Process‑oriented. Structure your workflow and constantly improve editing efficiency without sacrificing quality.
  • Adaptable. Comfortable navigating changing guidelines, priorities, and content types with a solutions‑first mindset.
  • Thrives working independently. Enjoy a remote environment, take ownership of your work while knowing when to ask for input.

A degree in journalism, creative writing, German studies, linguistics, marketing, or a related field is preferred but not required.
