JJYS Technician II - Millcreek Youth Center:
If you would like a position working with today's youth, you are in the right place. A Juvenile Justice Technician works to change young lives, support families, and keep communities safe in various environments including detention, long term secure care, multi-use facilities, and community-based programs.
A Juvenile Justice Technician works to protect youth and staff, supervise and guide youth toward pro-social skills, and contribute to positive behavioral outcomes as part of the Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) team.
The work assignment may be in a community setting, in a residential shelter or treatment setting, or in a secure youth correctional facility. The work is dynamic, challenging and rewarding as youth mature and change due to the interventions provided by JJYS team members.

Roles and Responsibilities- Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS.
- Monitor visitors and residents within the facility.
- Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth.
- Assist the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks.
- Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and/or the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities and property.
- Within the first 90 days after hire, participate in one week of New Employee Training to introduce principles and practices used in work with youth and families, and one week of verbal and physical de-escalation training to provide skills for working with youth with challenging behaviors.
- Transport youth.
- Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety.
- Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing (read and understand information presented in writing).

Preference- Candidates 19 years of age or older.
- Candidates with a high school diploma or GED.
- Candidates that speak multiple languages.
- A valid Utah Driver's License.

- High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients in order to de-escalate hostile or volatile situations.
- Work requires physical exertion and requires the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
