Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs unique legacy as well as modern manufacturing equipment, heavy machinery, conveyors, material handling, extruders, pumps, electrical systems, and control panels. The role also addresses facility needs including racking, safety guarding, electrical, and office furnishings. This position supports continuous production operations by performing preventative and corrective maintenance, ensuring equipment reliability, and promoting a safe working environment in a 24/7 facility.

The shift schedule is 6:00 PM–6:00 AM on a 2‑2‑3 schedule.

Core Responsibilities & Duties
  • Perform all job duties and functions at the plant with safety at top of mind for yourself and all others at the plant.
  • Install, maintain, and repair manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and industrial machinery.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC issues.
  • Ability to reverse engineer unfamiliar or custom machinery to understand function and perform effective maintenance.
  • Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and perform corrective actions.
  • Install and repair motors, drives, sensors, and control systems.
  • Access and interpret PLC logic for troubleshooting.
  • Fabricate, weld, and build mechanical or electrical components.
  • Maintain accurate logs and communication between shifts.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Partner with and manage vendors and contractors, including safety policy review and compliance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, Lean events, training, and safety audits.
  • Participate in and develop 6S environment within maintenance shop and plant floor.
  • Utilize Cerro Wire Core Values in all activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned including, but not limited to cleaning, meetings, projects, planning, and facility upkeep.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred (OWTAC Industrial Automation highly preferred).
  • Safety mindset.
  • 3–5 years maintenance experience in manufacturing.
  • Ability to understand and apply written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Experience with AC/DC motors, drives, and PLCs.
  • Ability to operate shop tools, testing equipment, forklifts, and other heavy equipment safely.
  • Strong demonstrated math and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must supply own tools.
  • Comfortable with a change environment.
  • Ability and comfort with adjusting plans and reprioritizing as needed.
  • Strong communication and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to read, write, interpret, update and close out work orders in the system in English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Cerro Wire forklift, scissor lift, and crane certification.
  • Operators must be able to follow instructions, adapt and be comfortable in a change environment and work well with others.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing pre-employment background check, drug screening, and physical assessment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • The maintenance department is viewed as a leg of the leadership team. All maintenance personnel are expected to act and support the floor as a leadership partner.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, noise, dust, humidity, fumes, and chemicals.
  • Exposure to the elements as needed.
  • Must be able to grasp, lift, carry, shift, push, and pull 50+ pounds throughout a 12‑hour shift.
