Overview

Job Summary: The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring material availability to support fabrication and machining operations. This role ensures raw materials, WIP, and finished goods are properly received, issued, stored, and transacted within the ERP system to support production schedules, cost control, and on-time delivery.

The Inventory Control Specialist works closely with Purchasing, Scheduling, Manufacturing, and Quality to prevent material shortages, minimize excess inventory, and maintain integrity across the shop floor and warehouse.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods within the ERP system
  • Execute and support cycle counts, audits, and inventory reconciliations, identifying root causes of discrepancies
  • Ensure timely and accurate material transactions, including material issues to jobs, inventory transfers, and adjustments
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Scheduling to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules
  • Support fabrication and machine operations by ensuring correct materials, quantities, and revisions are issued to jobs
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, and misallocations
  • Maintain proper material identification, labeling, and storage in accordance with shop standards and quality requirements
  • Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy KPIs, such as inventory accuracy %, cycle count performance, and material shortages
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to material flow, warehouse organization, and inventory controls
  • Comply with all safety, quality, and operational procedures
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of inventory control principles in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of fabrication and machining materials
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and inventory transactions
  • Ability to read and interpret Bills of Material (BOMs) and Job routers
  • Material specifications
  • High attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced shop environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify root causes of inventory issues
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating across supply chain, production, and quality teams
  • Ability to work independently while prioritizing multiple tasks
  • Comfortable working in a shop and warehouse environment
Minimum Requirements

High School Education. Three to five years related experience.

Essential Mental Functions

Must be able to give and receive instructions and react favorably in all work situations. Must have good communication skills. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people. Must handle novel and diverse work problems daily. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. You must have long attention span to listen to people, perceive the real problems, and bring issues to a successful conclusion.

Must have the ability to act favorably in stressful situations.

Essential Physical Functions

Requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires lifting to 60 pounds. Requires exposure to machines, chemicals, and solvents. Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for data input, tool repair and telephone use. Must be able to operate simple power tools such as drills, grinders, etc. Requires vision and hearing correctly within normal range. Requires ability to use ladder to retrieve tools and supplies located on high shelves.
