Overview
Potbelly Sandwich Shops is hiring for the position of Assistant Manager.
Location:
Field, in Shop.
Reports to:
General Manager. Time:
Full Time, Nonexempt. Travel:

- Lead and develop Potbelly Associates and Shift Leaders; train, coach, and evaluate performance including completion and sign-off of appraisals.
- Conduct weekly feedback sessions with Associates, Certified Trainers and Shift Leaders.
- Enforce work rules, personnel policies, labor laws, and safety procedures; implement corrective action when needed.
- Assist in hiring and retention decisions; execute plans to decrease turnover and improve job satisfaction.
- Schedule staff and update the communication board with critical shop information.
- Hold monthly meetings with Associates, Certified Trainers and Shift Leaders.
- Handle customer complaints effectively and maintain standards for product quality, service speed, cleanliness, and sanitation.
- Enforce food safety requirements, uniform policy, and back-of-house standards.
- Drive local marketing and promotions to maximize sales, including recruiting and outreach outside the shop.
- Manage P&L items, control food components, labor, waste, and cash across shifts; count drawers and ensure proper cash handling; maintain daily prep sheets and inventory; place shop orders as needed.
- Meet essential physical requirements and maintain the ability to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods.
- Minimum of 2 years of management experience in a restaurant or retail environment.
- High School diploma required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - All Shift Leaders and Managers must complete a Food Safety Certification course (Illinois: IDPH; other states: Serv Safe or equivalent).
- Strong verbal and written English communication; able to work effectively under pressure and manage a fast-paced operation.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, and multi-tasking skills; ability to build and develop teams and handle conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience in scheduling and maintaining labor goals.
- Strong business acumen and ability to supervise, coach, and counsel employees; capable of problem-solving, maintaining cleanliness, and executing marketing plans.
