The Special Assets Litigation Paralegal supports the Special Assets Team in matters related to enforcement of commercial credit agreements, debt collection, creditor/debtor rights, and litigation management. This role involves case management, document preparation, legal research and professional written and verbal communication with internal and external stake holders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Special Asset Relationship Managers with work-out and litigation matters involving enforcement of commercial credit agreements, debt collection, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and creditor/debtor disputes.
- Draft various documents related to work-out and litigation matters, such as demand letters, complaints, motions, discovery requests, and settlement agreements.
- Manage case files, meet competing deadlines, and track court filings and hearings
- Gather, organize and produce necessary documentation to support enforcement and litigation efforts.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders, creditors, court personnel, and opposing counsel in a professional manner.
- Review and assimilate credit reports, loan documents, account statements, contracts, and payment histories as needed.
- Ensure compliance with court rules, filing procedures, and confidentiality requirements
- Conduct legal research as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required education and experience:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or a related field
- Strong knowledge of UCC Article 9 and related commercial credit laws, bankruptcy procedures, and legal process
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred education and experience:
- Paralegal certification preferred
- 5+ years of experience in commercial collection law, creditor rights, and debtor/creditor law
- Extensive knowledge of bankruptcy law and procedures
- Solid understanding of federal and state court docketing systems
- Superior communication and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability in communicating effectively, both verbally and written
- Strong Microsoft application knowledge (Excel, Word, Outlook)
