Job Summary
Weber State University Charter Academy is seeking an experienced mentor teacher passionate about supporting the development of future educators within a lab school setting. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong expertise in explicit instruction, including clear learning targets, modeling, guided practice, frequent checks for understanding, timely feedback, and structured opportunities for independent practice. The teacher should be skilled in making thinking visible and supporting learners through systematic, intentional instruction.
In this role you will mentor Weber State University teacher candidates by providing thoughtful, constructive feedback and modeling effective instructional practices. Candidates should be adaptable, personable, and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively with university partners, students, and colleagues in a dynamic environment.
Further responsibilities include presenting at conferences, engaging in professional learning, and representing Weber State University Charter Academy positively within the community.
ResponsibilitiesThe mentor teacher will model effective teaching practices in an elementary classroom that immerses students in experiential learning. The mentor teacher partners with student teachers via coaching cycles to design and implement inquiry‑driven and developmentally appropriate curricula, lead small groups, co‑teach, conduct research, and reflect on data to improve teaching and learning practices.
Additionally, mentor teachers represent WSU in the community by serving as a model and resource of evidence‑based practice in elementary education.
The mentor teacher will work under the direction of the Charter Academy Director. The Charter Academy is located on the Weber State University Ogden campus and this may be a temporary position.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field
- Educator’s license
- Cleared background screening
- Master’s Degree
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience in an elementary classroom
- Experience developing curriculum
- Instructional coaching experience
Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist; bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees; moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet; extending hands and arms in any direction; standing for sustained periods; moving about to accomplish tasks; using upper extremities to press against something with steady force; using upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul or tug objects;
lifting; expressing or exchanging ideas; ability to receive detailed information.
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity RequirementsRequired to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading. Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
