Elementary Counselor – 2026‑27 school year

Essential Functions
  • Work with general education students and students with social, emotional, behavioral, and physical disabilities in a variety of settings
  • Consult and support school staff in conducting a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
  • Consult, train and support school staff in developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  • Consult, train and support district staff in data collection protocols for students with identified social/emotional or behavioral needs
  • Support school teams in developing skills to promote student success in academics and personal/social growth
  • Advocate on the student’s behalf and collaborate with teachers to develop effective support services
  • Implement and support prevention and intervention strategies
  • Administer and interpret social/behavioral assessments and record data for use in school team meetings
  • Attend required school team meetings, including 504, IEP, and crisis meetings, as needed
  • Assist in writing, implementing, and monitoring individual goals and objectives for students with behavioral services
  • Provide staff development and training in social/emotional and behavior management techniques
  • Confer with parents regarding student progress and needs
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with diverse students and families
  • Show leadership that supports program objectives and collaborative problem‑solving with co‑workers
  • Work cooperatively with all members of the school team, including administration, psychologists, health care professionals, service providers, teachers, and parents
  • Use computer operating systems and office software (Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Suite, etc.)
  • Implement district and school policies, and maintain confidential records in compliance with state and federal laws
  • Maintain schedules, meet timelines, exercise good judgment in emergencies, and participate in crisis situations
  • Coordinate services with local community agencies and adapt to program changes
  • Drive to and attend school sites within the Weber School District geographic area
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission
  • Conform to district attendance, absence, and evaluation policies
Qualifications and

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling
  • Utah State Board of Education School Counseling Professional license preferred
  • Experience in a school setting preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Mobility to reach, bend, and manipulate small objects; lift and carry up to 50 lb; occasional lifting up to 20 lb
  • Independent transportation across the Weber School District
  • Non‑violent crisis intervention techniques, occasional work with bio‑hazards
  • Ability to move throughout school environments, including classrooms, offices, playgrounds, and meeting areas
  • Comfortable standing or sitting for extended periods during sessions and documentation
  • Effective verbal and written communication with students, staff, and families in varied settings
  • Visual acuity to read records and written materials; hearing sufficient for noisy school environments
  • Manual dexterity for computer use and office equipment
  • Emotional regulation, judgment, and confidentiality when handling sensitive situations
  • Responsive to urgent student needs and crisis situations
  • Work in a typical school setting with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records, counseling sessions, and sensitive family information
  • Follow a school‑day schedule with occasional evening work for meetings, events, and professional development
