Overview
The Chemistry Department at Weber State University is accepting applications from individuals committed to teaching in the laboratory and classroom at the undergraduate level for a full-time, one-year appointment at the instructor rank, with full benefits, beginning July 2026. Specific assignments will include instruction of lower-division general chemistry and/or organic chemistry courses, along with associated lab courses in the Fall semester 2026 and the Spring semester 2027.
The department welcomes applicants from any subdiscipline of chemistry. Our department is committed to providing mentoring and support to individuals in these positions, with the goal of further developing their teaching skills and enhancing their prospects for future employment.
Successful candidates will join a collaborative department committed to high-quality undergraduate instruction. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in lower-division, service-oriented chemistry courses, including:
- General Education courses (1100-series)
- Introductory Chemistry courses (1200-series)
- Organic Chemistry
- General/Organic Chemistry Laboratory Classes
Additional instructional responsibilities may be assigned based on departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise.
QualificationsRequired
- A master’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field
- Ability or potential to teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses effectively
Preferred
- PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field
- Experience teaching lower-division or introductory laboratory courses
- Experience teaching lower division or introductory lecture classes with a commitment to student success and active learning techniques
- Commitment to student success and active learning techniques
- Strong communication and organizational skills

Physical Requirements of this position:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision:
Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position:
None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
