The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an employment opportunity with our school. We are looking for a dynamic and meticulous candidate to fill the position of Student Life Technician in Ogden. This position works with the residential students in the Deaf School.
Work ScheduleIn coordination with the school year August – June: 5 nights per week. Sunday 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Monday through Thursday 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and available to substitute for other Student Life Technicians.
Roles and Responsibilities- Help monitor and consequent behavior as prescribed by written interventions.
- Record corresponding data.
- Help students increase independence in eating, dressing, toileting, communication and leisure skills.
- Report student progress to staff and parents as needed.
- Communicate with parents and teachers.
- Follow prescribed procedures in emergency situations.
- Report medical problems to medical staff and assist in rendering emergency and maintenance health care under direction of a registered nurse.
- Supervise students in the cottages and during activities.
- Transport students (some may be in wheelchairs) to and from meals and activities.
- Transfer and carry students with limited mobility as needed.
- Provide basic custodial care of facilities, do laundry and dishes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- American Sign Language (ASL) skills required.
- Experience dealing with students with behavior challenges, taking data and tracking behavior.
- Willingness to change classroom assignments as needed.
- MANDT training or Crisis Prevention Training required; training will be provided.
- Knowledge of applied behavior analysis and interventions with a focus on positive reinforcement.
- Compliance with strict confidentiality.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
Preference may be given to applicants with previous experience working with deaf/hard-of-hearing and/or blind/visually impaired children.

- Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System: Employer contributes 10% of salary between pension and 401(k).
- Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan: Employer contributes 10% of salary to 401(k) only.

- Paid Time Off:
- Annual leave and sick leave accrue at 4 hours per pay period each.
- Annual leave increases with years of service.

- Risks of potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, including physical attack.
- Strenuous physical requirements: standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, heavy lifting of students with limited mobility; must be able to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
