Position:
Behavior Interventionist/Junior High School Teacher

The successful candidate will be working half-time as Behavior Interventionist and half-time as Classroom Teacher at the Junior H.S level.

Job Summary:

The Behavior Interventionist (BI) plays a vital role in promoting a safe and supportive learning environment for elementary and junior high students while actively building the capacity of classroom staff and school personnel to monitor and support appropriate behaviors independent of the BI. This position involves implementing behavior intervention methods and practices to maintain order, prevent crisis situations, and ensure the well-being of students participating in a structured educational program.

The BI in this role will work with other stakeholders to identify behavioral concerns, de-escalate challenging situations, and provide appropriate physical intervention when necessary per established crisis intervention policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Professional License per the State of Illinois.
  • Bachelor s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Background in Special Education and/or Social Work is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with intellectually and developmentally disabled or at-risk students preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, crisis management techniques, and special education principles.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise sound judgment in crisis situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.

Reports to:

Special Education Coordinator/Building Principal

Responsibilities
  • Behavior Intervention:
    Implement behavior intervention strategies and techniques to address disruptive behavior, promote positive behavior, and prevent the escalation of crisis situations.
  • Crisis Management:
    Monitor student behavior and intervene promptly when students pose a danger to themselves or others. Utilize crisis intervention techniques and personal judgment to manage problem situations effectively and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
  • Observation and Documentation:
    Conduct ongoing observation of student behavior and document incidents, interventions, and outcomes accurately and comprehensively. Maintain detailed records of behavioral incidents, interventions, and progress to inform decision-making and support individualized student plans.
  • Collaboration:

    Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement behavior support plans tailored to students  unique needs. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress, concerns, and strategies for intervention and support.
  • Professional Development:
    Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in behavior management, crisis intervention, and special education practices. Stay informed about current research, best practices, and legal requirements related to behavior intervention and special education.

Job Summary:

The Elementary or Junior High School Teacher will be primarily responsible for facilitating the learning process and fostering students  intellectual, social, and emotional development. The teacher will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive academically and personally.

Classroom Teacher Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor s Degree in Education or a related field (for Elementary Teachers) or subject-specific certification (for Junior High School Teachers) is required.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to working with students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of subject matter content and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of and/or expressed interest in individualized instruction of students.
  • Ability to effectively manage a diverse classroom environment.
  • Commitment to student-centered teaching and continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • A minimum of 18 semester hours in the area of major teaching assignment, including 5 semester hours in each course where subject matter areas are divided into two or more specific courses (Junior High School Teachers).
Responsibilities (Classroom)
  • Curriculum Implementation:
    Develop and deliver engaging lessons directly aligned with grade-level standards and curriculum objectives. Employ various teaching strategies and instructional techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities. Follow the district s approved curriculum maps and plans.
  • Student Assessment:
    Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments. Use data to inform instructional decisions and tailor teaching approaches to meet individual student needs.
  • Classroom Management:
