Truck Driver Helper – NE Thrift Store Department – 401
Assists the Truck Driver in the loading and unloading of routine pickups and deliveries of material, donated or otherwise, to serve the production needs of the store and/or general operation of the corporation.
Essential FunctionsThis job description identifies the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbent may be requested to perform other job-related responsibilities and tasks.
Donations Pick-Ups and Deliveries Responsibilities (100%)- Assist the Truck Driver in lifting and stacking donations in the truck and unloading/loading the truck.
- Prepare donation receipts for customers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
- Place and arrange furniture, appliances, books, or other heavy items in the store as directed.
- Inspect donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explain policy to customers regarding acceptable items.
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining the warehouse and loading dock area; pick up trash and debris surrounding the grounds as requested.
- Assist with placing items in the store as needed.
- Assist customers in carrying purchased/donated items in/out of the store.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
- Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Education and Experience
- High School or G.E.D. preferred but not required.
- Prior experience driving a box truck preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid State Driver's License (preferred).
Physical Requirements- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English effectively.
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
- Frequent periods of physical mobility including standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 100 lbs. frequently.
Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors and physical discomforts associated with weather changes such as rain, cold, snow, heat, noise, dust, dirt, and other environmental factors.
