Overview
Position Summary
The Service Coordinator in the Center for Heart Disease undertakes the managerial responsibilities for a Specialty area in the Cath Lab in coordination with the Cath Lab Supervisor and the Cath Lab Coordinator. The Service Coordinator is directly responsible for the performance of the Specialty, by providing a high quality of patient care within the confines of the approved budget. He/she assesses care for patients on an individual and overall department basis within the framework and philosophy of the Cath Lab to provide goal-oriented patient care through utilization and documentation of the nursing process.
He/she will assist in the handling of cases by either acting as a Circulating Nurse or Scrub Technician as needed and become a resource person. Support Center for Heart Disease departments that have been assigned to analyst for all Information Technology needs. Plans, manages and guides projects, utilizing standard IT methodology, which implements computer application systems which satisfy strategic, customer and regulatory requirements.
Provides operational support for applications including data integrity, maintenance, training, and vendor interaction. Maintain existing software, test changes and enhancements to applications in a timely manner in order to gain maximum usage of software applications and information systems.
Education
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, with more than 5 years of experience in a healthcare environment; or an equivalent combination of education and healthcare experience.
- Must have a solid background in computer hardware, software, networks and the ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
- Knowledge of analysis, debugging and standard project management tools. Excellent written/oral communication skills required.
- Experience with at least one clinical ancillary information system with an emphasis on Ambulatory, Pharmacy, Cardiology or Radiology or Quality initiatives preferred. Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and issues to facilitate appropriate client support and escalation of issues.
- Experience in problem analysis and testing with an emphasis on healthcare and/or business applications; must be able to work effectively with a diverse group of people. Extensive understanding of operating systems software and Web browser use is required in a complex environment.
- 2–3 year’s experience functioning as an IT Analyst in an IT Department. Experience with the life cycle of system/project implementation and working within a project management methodology. Experience working with Clinical Ancillary Systems such as Radiology, Cardiology and Lab as well as major vendors (Epic, Cerner, McKesson, Allscripts) is acceptable.
- Minimum of five years of experience working with Hospital Information Systems, supporting application software, analyzing business problems, hands-on clinical experience, and/or project management required.
Job Knowledge
Basic knowledge of clinical operations either through formal education or business experience. Must possess the ability to plan, direct, and coordinate activities of designated projects, with guidance from management, to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed parameters. The ability to interpret and apply an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables within the healthcare environment.
Requires conscious commitment to the highest standards of customer service. Must be a self-motivated person and can demonstrate a working knowledge of multiple software/hardware applications. Must be able to communicate with peers, subordinates and upper management effectively and courteously. Must be able to use sound judgment and must demonstrate logical thinking and initiative. Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
