Bakery Clerk; Closer

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations including full compliance with all applicable laws pertaining to safety, health, and packaging requirements
• Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise. Check and verify grocery receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered. Check products for quality, count, and condition
• Keep all bakery ingredients or merchandise rotated in accordance with Company Policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest products first
• Control freshness by coding all product and pulling out-of-code merchandise daily
• Handle damaged and spoiled products according to Company Policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods
• Take stock to storage or shelf areas
• Answer phones and take special orders
• Reduce out-of-code merchandise daily for quick sale to maintain department’s image for the highest quality and freshness
• Wrap, package, and price all product accurately and legibly in accordance with established Bakery Procedures and Guidelines
• Decorate cakes using the precise measurements and scales as set by Bakery Procedures
• Decorate cakes to customer specifications and prepare them on time for customer pick up
• Perform general housekeeping in the department; clean and sanitize work area (including tables, floor, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.)
• Keep manager aware of low inventory conditions or excessive spoilage problems

• Be at least 18 years of age; bakery experience is a plus
• Demonstrate outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and ability to interact with customers

Physical Demands

• Must be able to carry/lift up to 50 lbs
• Must be able to push/pull up to 200 lbs
• In an 8-hour work day: stand for up to 6-8 hours
• Hand use: grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
• Movements: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
• Operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed
• Vertically transfer trays up to 5 lbs from 7" to 64" for up to 8 hours; transfer items up to 40 lbs from 5" to 36" for up to 36 feet
• Repetitive actions: process merchandise, prepare and wrap bakery products, proof dough, bake, stock and rotate display case, unload deliveries, operate and clean bakery equipment
• Work in wet and dry conditions
• Exposure to temperatures: below 32°F, 32–40°F, and above 90°F
• May require use of a ladder
• Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations; obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit
