Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Under general supervision of the Director of Student Services and the professional direction of a California credentialed school nurse, a Licensed Vocational Nurse provides specialized health care services and procedures (SPHCS) to medically fragile students and students with exceptional needs, as well as general education students. The position is a 7.5 hour/day, 11 month role.
Responsibilities:
- Provide skilled vocational nursing skills and specialized health care procedures and services.
- Administer injections/medications with skill.
- Evaluate and assess student illness or emergency medical situations.
- Operate a variety of specialized medical equipment.
- Operate and use computers and related peripheral equipment.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this classification would typically be acquired through graduation from an accredited vocational nursing program; two years of acute nursing experience; work with medically fragile children in a school environment is highly desirable; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
- Knowledge of Basic nursing concepts and patient care-related subjects.
- Signs and symptoms of childhood and/or adolescent illnesses.
- General concepts of child development and characteristics of children with special needs.
- Universal health precautions and proper techniques for handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
- Proper use and care of medical materials, supplies and equipment.
- Ability to provide skilled vocational nursing skills.
- Provide specialized health care procedures and services.
- Administer injections/medications with skill.
- Evaluate and assess student illness or emergency medical situations.
- Operate a variety of specialized medical equipment.
- Operate and use computers and related peripheral equipment.

- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Driver's License Copy

- Valid Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification
