Position Summary
The Back Office Medical Assistant performs a variety of clinical and clerical responsibilities to assist care providers in examination and treatment of patients. It includes entering pertinent information into patient charts and handling related clerical tasks. The role supports the physician with all aspects of patient care including rooming patients, taking vitals, and documenting patient histories.

ALL
- Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection control requirements.
- Obtains, identifies and records vital signs, prevention data, medications, chief complaints and other pertinent information.
- Observes, records and reports pertinent patient symptoms, reactions, condition changes, and information. Immediately identifies and reports adverse observations, reactions, conditions or emergency situations to RN or practitioner.
- Transcribes patient-specific data into electronic systems using practitioner-generated ICD-10 and CPT codes for billing, coding, and clinical data reporting and analysis.
- Prepares room and instruments for use during exam or procedure. Assists MD, PA or NP with a wide variety of patient care procedures and tests. Collects, labels and processes specimens as required by practitioner and in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Follows departmental and organizational directives to isolate and process contaminated instruments and supplies. Cleans rooms, furniture, instruments and equipment according to established policies and procedures.
- Identifies, draws up and labels medications on sterile and unsterile fields for immediate verification and administration by the practitioner. Verbalizes preparation and shows practitioner medication container.
- Calls patient prescriptions to the pharmacy, as ordered by authorized practitioner.
- Assists in resolving and/or responding to non-clinical related patient complaints and inquiries.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Medical Assistant I
- Manage a caseload of 20+ patients per day with physician(s) assigned.
Medical Assistant II
- Manage a caseload of 25+ patients per day with physician assigned to.
- Process referrals, orders, and complete all disability forms.
Medical Assistant III
- Acts as preceptor/trainer to new hires and practice manager on front and back office workflows, clinical and administrative software training, and post-appointment referral processing.
- Identifies and implements operational strategies and process improvements for the department/unit with the clinic manager.
- Manage a caseload of 35+ patients per day with physician assigned to.
- Provide onboarding and training to Medical Assistants new to the practice.
- Acts as lead resource for billing and coding of medical procedures and services in the clinic; works with billing/coding personnel.
- Process referrals, orders, and complete all disability forms.
- Proofread physicians dictation and inform of any errors.
- Cross-trained in all front and back office clinic functions.

Medical Assistant I
- Relevant clinical Medical Assistant experience, preferred. May consider applicable CNA experience in lieu of Medical Assistant experience.
