Position: Special Education Paraprofessional I

Position Overview

This promotional recruitment will create an integrated eligibility list for future vacancies. The position is a 30‑hour per week, 10‑month contract available at multiple school sites. Candidates will work under the supervision of a site administrator and in daily direction of a credentialed teacher to provide instructional support and assistance to students receiving special education services, including behavior management activities. Duties may be performed in a classroom setting or in a one‑to‑one support role, as documented in each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support and assistance to teachers and students with special education needs.
  • Perform behavioral management activities and other support tasks related to special education instruction.
  • Assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
  • Carry out clerical duties that support classroom activities.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and maintain professional, cooperative relationships with staff and students.
  • Work confidentially and within scope of authority, communicating effectively with diverse groups.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus extensive paid or volunteer experience working with children.
  • Curriculum and Performance Insight (CPI) certification.
  • Valid first‑aid and CPR certifications (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or district‑approved provider).
  • Current, valid California driver’s license (required for some positions).
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to students receiving special education services, including behavior management, general district subjects, and safe classroom practices.
  • Proficiency in basic instructional methods, correct English usage, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic record‑keeping and classroom procedure skills.
