Temporary Assignment. Position Details:
The college is accepting applications for anticipated openings in Spring 2024 and Fall 2024, as well as for possible substitute assignments. Classes may be onground, online (synchronous and/or asynchronous), or both onground and online, and may include days, evenings, or weekends. Applications are valid through June 30, 2024, at which time they will expire. A new posting for this pool will be posted on July 1, 2024 and those still interested will need to reapply at that time.

ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties & Responsibilities:

Other Duties:
1. Stay current in the discipline and maintain any required licensure or continuing education. 2. May arrange and lead field trips or other course-related events.
3. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Transcripts must show degree title, major, and date awarded.
- Master’s degree in Japanese, Japanese Language & Literature, or Japanese Literature [locally approved at Mira Costa College];
- OR bachelor’s degree in Japanese, Japanese Language & Literature, or Japanese Literature [locally approved at Mira Costa College] AND master’s degree in another language or linguistics;
- OR a valid California Community College Credential in the discipline; OR the equivalent.*
AND have sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds. Applicants claiming equivalence should follow the provided equivalency instructions.
Desirable
Qualifications:
1. Commitment to teaching and staying current in second language acquisition, including traditional and alternative delivery methods. 2. Use of communicative, content-based, and task-based methodologies.
3. Ability to communicate effectively in Japanese and English.
4. Skill in applying current technology in instruction and online teaching.
Knowledge To: theory and methods in the discipline, educational technologies, state education codes, and diversity in student populations.
