Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and develop instructional materials including presentations, lectures, demonstrations, homework assignments, laboratory exercises and project assignments; teach courses utilizing sound pedagogical methods and instructional strategies; modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs; participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs); use instructional technologies to enrich and facilitate student learning; participate in the review and selection of textbooks and other student materials for assigned courses.
  • Provide prompt feedback on student assignments; evaluate student performance fairly and consistently; assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with district standards, policies and procedures; post grades and submit records by established deadlines.
  • Be available to students by telephone, email, LMS, or personal conference to answer questions and assist with course work; meet scheduled office hours; maintain a flexible schedule; refer students to other faculty or campus resources as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and complete course records as required by law and district policies; record attendance and other data using course management software; submit attendance and other records by required deadlines.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student information.
  • Collaborate with department chairs and other faculty to develop policies, standards, curricula, and participate in college matters; substitute for other faculty when needed to meet college or student needs.
  • Participate in campus life; attend meetings and activities that support the college's educational goals; serve on campus committees or task forces.
  • Meet professional responsibilities in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Other Duties:

  • Stay current in the academic or program discipline, including licensure, certification or continuing education requirements where appropriate.
  • May arrange and lead field trips and attendance at related events.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge To:

    • Theory, concepts, principles, techniques and conventions applicable to assigned disciplines at an advanced level.
    • Teaching and instructional techniques and strategies for student learning at varying levels.
    • Educational technologies including online learning and course management systems such as Blackboard.
    • State education code, Title 5 and related laws for curriculum requirements and reporting.
    • Instructional techniques for a diverse range of students including those with disabilities.
    • District organization, operations, policies and resources supporting student success.
    • Safety policies and safe work practices.

    Ability To:

  • Clearly convey theories and content to a diverse student population.
  • Use instructional technologies to maximize student learning.
  • Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and return work promptly.
  • Adjust teaching methodologies based on student learning outcomes and diverse needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit grades/attendance by deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Meet teaching and other responsibilities with a flexible schedule.
  • Stay current in the field through professional development.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Operate a computer and standard software.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Physical Effort: Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; computer use; travel to multiple locations as needed.

    Emotional Effort: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while engaging with diverse individuals.

    Working Conditions: Classroom and office environments; frequent public contact; occasional evenings/weekends; possible travel to district locations.
