Position Details:
The college is accepting applications to build a pool of counselors for possible future part-time assignments at all locations. The department chairperson or designee will review applications as vacancies become available. Counselors may be assigned to any campus or authorized facility. Assignments may include days, evenings, or weekends.

Applications are valid through June 30, 2023, at which time they will expire. A new posting for this pool will be posted on July 1, 2023, and those still interested will need to reapply at that time.

Compensation:
Compensation is based on education. To view the current Associate (part-time) Faculty Salary Schedule, please select “Salary Schedules” to the left on the navigation bar.

Employees must arrange direct deposit of paychecks via electronic fund transfer.

Application Procedure & Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The transcripts you attach must state the degree title, major, and date awarded.
  • (1) Master’s degree in counseling, career development, educational counseling, guidance counseling, counseling psychology, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling;
  • (2) OR a Master’s degree in Education, Concentration:
    Counseling;

    Education:

    Counseling Option;

    Education:

    Counseling and Guidance Concentration;

    Education:

    Educational and Clinical Counseling;

    Education:

    Educational Counseling;

    Education:

    School Counseling;
    Social Welfare;
    Guidance and Counseling; or Marriage & Family Counseling (approved comparable degree majors at Mira Costa College);
  • (3) OR a Bachelor’s degree in any of the majors listed in (1) above AND a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) license valid in California;
  • (4) OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area.

    Responsibilities & Duties
  • Under direction, provide counseling services to students with a wide variety of backgrounds and needs; develop education plans with students to achieve their academic goals; plan, organize and teach assigned counseling courses in accordance with approved course outlines, education code requirements and faculty contract provisions; provide feedback and guidance to students and evaluate student performance; and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Meet with students on an appointment and drop-in basis to assess their academic and career goals and personal situations; tailor education plans; advise on courses and requirements; document counseling notes and plans.
  • Explain district policies and procedures and assist students in completing forms required to meet their needs; provide information on transfer and other requirements.
  • Assist students in exploring and evaluating career options; provide referrals to student support services and other departments.
  • Plan, organize and develop instructional materials; teach courses using appropriate pedagogy; modify methods to meet diverse student needs; use instructional technologies to enrich learning; participate in selecting textbooks and materials.
  • Provide prompt feedback on student assignments; evaluate performance fairly; assign grades and maintain records; submit grades and other records by deadlines.
