Dance Associate (P/T) Instructor – Middle Eastern Dance – Immediate Opening for Fall 2021
Join Mira Costa College as a Dance Associate (Part‑Time) Instructor for Middle Eastern Dance courses (DNCE 130, 131, 230). The classes run Fall Semester 2021 (late‑start class September–December) on Monday evenings 6:00 pm – 7:20 pm at the Oceanside Campus.
Position OverviewThis combined course provides a concentrated study of Middle Eastern dance within its cultural context. Students learn dance techniques, correct alignment, body isolations, arm movements, rhythmic coordination, and choreography for traditional and contemporary styles such as Raqs al Baladi, Raqs Sharqi, Taqsim, drum solos, finger cymbal patterns, and veil work.
CompensationPart‑time Associate Faculty salary according to the current salary schedule (see salary schedule). Employees must arrange direct deposit of paychecks.

- Master’s degree in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis.
- Or master’s degree in Theatre and Dance (Dance Theatre) – an approved comparable degree at Mira Costa College.
- Or bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s degree in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts, or music.
- Or a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area.
- Or the equivalent.
- And sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Under direction, plan, organize and teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines, education code requirements and faculty contract provisions; provide feedback and guidance to students and evaluate student performance; perform related duties as assigned.
- Plan, organize and develop instructional materials, including presentations, lectures, demonstrations, homework assignments, laboratory exercises and project assignments consistent with approved course outlines; teach courses utilizing sound pedagogical methods and instructional strategies most appropriate to communicating subject matter to students to meet learning objectives; modify, as necessary, instructional methods to meet diverse student needs; participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs);
use available instructional technologies such as the internet, online learning and interactive technologies to enrich and facilitate student learning; participate in the review and selection of textbooks and other student materials for assigned courses. - Provide prompt feedback on student assignments; evaluate student performance fairly and consistently; assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with district standards, policies and procedures; submit and post grades and other records following appropriate procedures by established deadlines.
- Be available to students by telephone, email, course learning management system, or personal conference to answer questions and provide encouragement and assistance; maintain office hours; refer students to other faculty or campus resources to resolve issues beyond the faculty’s purview.
- Maintain accurate and complete course records as required by law, regulations and district policies and procedures; record student attendance and other data using course management software; submit attendance and other records by required deadlines.
