Position: Instructor, Sociology (2026)

Mira Costa College invites applications for one equity-minded, full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track,
Sociology Instructor position beginning in August 2026. The selected candidate will collaborate with other full-time instructors in leading curriculum development and using culturally responsive teaching methods.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in one or more areas of the sociology program, primarily in the area of Statistics for Sociology, Social Problems, and other related courses. (E)
  • Participate in typical departmental and faculty functions such as service on hiring committees, performance of faculty evaluations, collaboration with staff, and participation in department meetings. (E)
  • Work in collaboration with other full-time instructors in Sociology in coordinating curriculum and mentoring associate faculty in these courses. (E)
  • Maintain currency of curriculum for courses the individual teaches and develop new Sociology curricula in collaboration with other Sociology instructors as appropriate. (E)
  • Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs). (E)
  • Assist in recruiting students and promoting the sociology department through participation in college-sponsored events, student clubs, and educational outreach.
  • Participate in college-wide committee work and collegial governance. (E)
  • Maintain currency in areas appropriate to the position. (E)
  • RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

    Mira Costa College Board Policy 7800:
    Employee Residency requires all full-time faculty to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two hundred (200) road miles from the employee’s regularly assigned district worksite. The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high-quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.

    The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.

    Compensation

    Initial salary placement is based on education and experience and ranges from $88,852 (class I, step
