The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients to attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
This performance evaluation is based on these standards.
Graduate from NLN School of Nursing.
LicenseCurrently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi.
Certifications- All RNs required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- In specialty areas: ACLS for Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Congestive Heart Failure, Cardiovascular Surgery, Intensive Care Units.
- ACLS, PALS, TNCC for Emergency Department.
- ACLS, PALS for PACU/Recovery.
- ACLS, NRP for Labor & Delivery, Nursery.
- NRP for Pediatrics.
- ACLS, PALS for Medical Nursing (OB/GYN), Pediatrics.
- RNs have 12 months to acquire appropriate certification and 18 months to acquire TNCC certification for Emergency Department.
- Must have de-escalation training completed within 90 days of orientation.
A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program.
Reports ToPatient Care Manager.
SupervisesLPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians.
Physical DemandsWork is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office and facility, and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Subjects to exposure of body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
Work involves using many physical motions, repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movements while operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard. Must be able to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine discriminations in sound. Must have close visual acuity to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus. Must be able to be active for extended periods without undue fatigue, and work assigned schedules with understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.

Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision-making abilities, superior communication skills (speaking, enunciation, written). Emotional stability conducive to high stress, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, attention to detail, ability to multitask in complex situations, and maintain respectful working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
Special DemandsMust possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette, proficient computer knowledge (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word, other office technology). Must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
