Position Overview
The Receptionist receives and assists patients and visitors, answers telephone calls, and organizes appointments. He/She helps to facilitate patient care by carrying out the Receptionist responsibilities in a professional, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Receive and assist patients and visitors
- Answer telephone calls and manage inquiries
- Organize and coordinate appointments
- Support patient care by performing receptionist duties in a professional, efficient, and accurate manner
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
- License: N/A
- Certifications: Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
- Experience: Experience working in a clerical or secretarial role in a healthcare-related setting preferred.
- Reports To: Practice Administrator
- Supervises: None
- Work is moderately active: sitting with travel to other facilities within the SRHS service area; ability to move and lift items as needed.
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum and tissues; risk of infectious disease; repetitive movements with wrists, hands, and fingers; use of computer keyboard and office equipment.
- Close visual acuity and ability to focus on printed material and computer screens; ability to perceive sound at normal levels; ability to work extended periods without undue fatigue.
- Willingness to adapt to schedule changes for hospital needs, including off days, shifts, or weekends.
- Keen mental faculties, assessment and decision-making abilities
- Superior communication, speaking/enunciation skills; strong written and verbal communication
- Emotional stability to handle high-stress situations; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in complex situations; maintain collaborative relationships
- Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Proficient computer skills (keyboard proficiency) and familiarity with MS Outlook and Word; ability to use telephone, fax, etc.
- Apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages
