Position OverviewThe Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/She has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. He/She assists in the preparation of the room before surgery and is accountable for all items required for their surgical table, including all required instrumentation and sutures.
Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
Reports ToOR Lead Coordinator and Patient Care Manager.

Physical Demands- Work involves standing, moving about the facility, and travel to another facility within the SRHS service area
- Exerting a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects including the human body; safe lifting practices required
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum and tissues with potential infectious disease
- Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers; use of computer equipment
- Visual acuity and ability to adjust focus for close work
- Ability to be active for extended periods and adapt to schedule changes
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision-making abilities, excellent communication skills, emotional stability, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and multi-tasking in complex situations; ability to maintain collaborative working relationships.
Special Demands- Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Computer and office technology proficiency (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word)
- Appropriate clinical judgment within approved scope of practice for patients of all ages; knowledge of AST process standards
- Must travel throughout the SRHS service area with own transportation
